We set maximum times for all pay as you go journeys on the Tube, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail and National Rail services. If you spend longer than the maximum journey time, you could be charged two maximum fares. A single maximum fare is: up to £8.60 in Zones 1-9.
Is there a time limit on Oyster cards?
If you use an Oyster card, you get a daily cap and can travel as much as you like in one day across all our transport services. You also get a weekly cap for bus and tram journeys only, so you can travel as much as you like in one week. Oyster cards aren't accepted on TfL Rail between Reading and Iver.

Is Oyster cheaper than contactless?
Otherwise an Oyster on a Pay As You Go basis or a Contactless payment card is cheaper. If you are a resident or long-term visitor there are monthly and annual Travelcards. You can load 7 day Travelcards onto an Oyster card and switch between Oyster Pay As You Go and Travelcard as your travel patterns change.
What happens if you forget to tap out?

What happens if I don't tap out oyster?
If you don't touch in and out, we can't tell where you've travelled from or to, so your journey will be incomplete. Maximum fares don't count towards capping. If you don't touch in, you may be charged a penalty fare.
