How do you pay for public transport in Vienna?

Vienna works on an honesty system with no ticket barriers at stations and no formal, permanent ticket checks on the metro, local trains, trams and buses. You just hop on and off unchallenged. This doesn't mean public transport is free, though. You do need to buy a ticket.

How long are Vienna Metro tickets valid?

Vienna is a very safe city and in general women and men will have no trouble walking around at night. Karlsplatz station and Gumpendorfer Strasse can be boisterous late in the evening. The Prater and Praterstern can get dodgy at night. Ausstellungsstrasse is best avoided due to sex workers and kerb-crawlers.
